What happened
From 2015 to 2019, federal agencies alleged, Trident Mortgage avoided writing loans in majority-minority Philadelphia-area neighborhoods and discouraged applicants there—while staff email included racial slurs and “ghetto” talk. On July 27, 2022, DOJ and CFPB filed a consent order requiring at least $18.4 million in loan subsidies for neighborhoods of color, additional outreach and education money, and a $4 million penalty. Reuters pegged the package near $24.4 million. Trident denied the allegations except as needed for jurisdiction.

Concern. Redlining with slur-filled inboxes is not a paperwork glitch. A nine-figure-adjacent subsidy fund is how DOJ priced the harm—not a jury speech.
