Six Flags paid millions after Magic Mountain’s “gang” stops hit Black and Latino guests

In 2004 Six Flags paid about \$5.6 million to settle claims that Magic Mountain’s anti-gang screening racially profiled Black and Latino guests.

What happened

Civil-rights groups and guests said Six Flags Magic Mountain’s aggressive anti-gang screening stopped people based on looks. A class action alleged African American and Latino visitors were detained, searched, or turned away. In May 2004 the Los Angeles Times reported a roughly $5.6 million settlement: the policy ended, and victims would share cash and thousands of day passes.

Concern. Calling it “gangs” does not make racial stops fair. A multi-million-dollar settlement is how the park closed the file—not proof the stops never happened.
