What happened
On June 11, 2020, PayPal announced $530 million to support Black and minority-owned businesses and communities. The bulk, $500 million, was an economic-opportunity fund for longer-term investment. Reuters reported $10 million in emergency grants for Black-owned firms hurt by lockdowns. PayPal also pointed to $500,000 already going to civil-rights groups including NAACP LDF.
Most of the headline is a fund the company said it would invest, not money handed out.
