Microsoft’s 2020 racial-justice plan was several pledges, not one check

Microsoft pledged to double Black U.S. managers by 2025, plus Black-owned supplier spend and justice-reform grants.

What happened

On June 23, 2020, Microsoft published a racial-injustice plan that included a goal to double Black and African American people managers, senior individual contributors, and senior leaders in the United States by 2025, incremental spend with Black-owned suppliers, a $50 million Black-owned small-business fund, and $50 million over five years for justice reform.

The 2025 date attached to doubling Black U.S. managers and senior leaders has passed. This file does not treat Microsoft’s 2020 blog as proof that goal was met.

Mixed. The plan is unusually specific about Black managers, Black-owned suppliers, and justice reform. Readers still cannot treat a blog of stacked dollar signs as proof every dollar moved. The 2025 leadership goal is a target, not a census in this file.
