What happened: Reuters on targeted marketing
Reuters reported Johnson & Johnson pushed Johnson’s Baby Powder toward African-American and overweight women—groups with higher adult use—while the company faced questions about talc and asbestos. Internal materials cited “higher AA population” markets.
What happened: NCNW lawsuit
In 2021 the National Council of Negro Women sued, alleging Black women were a central marketing target without adequate cancer warnings. J&J denied purposeful harmful targeting and said the powder is safe. Those are allegations and a company denial, not a final judgment in this file.
