The Justice Department alleged that from 2016 through at least 2021 Ameris Bank avoided home-loan services in majority-Black and Hispanic census tracts in its Jacksonville assessment area while serving majority-white tracts. A 2023 consent order enjoined discriminatory practices and required a $5.5 million loan subsidy fund for those neighborhoods. Ameris denied it redlined.
