Amazon’s $10 million justice grants, then a quieter diversity file

Amazon donated $10M in 2020 to groups serving Black communities, a one-time gift, not a standing program.

What happened

In early June 2020, after nationwide protests over George Floyd’s murder, Amazon said it would donate $10 million to organizations working for social justice and to improve the lives of Black and African Americans. Recipients were selected with help from the company’s Black Employee Network and included the NAACP, National Urban League, Thurgood Marshall College Fund, and UNCF.

A later company update said employees donated $8.5 million and that with a company match the community total exceeded $27 million. That combined figure is not treated here as a second $10 million company grant.
